Safety Patrol, Grade 5
This is a great opportunity for 5th Grade students to practice enforcing safety procedures as students enter the building each morning. Safety Patrol members will monitor students who arrive early, hold doors open as students enter and also meet new friends in different grades!

Art Club
Attention early bird artists: Join Mrs. Stankiewicz in the art studio from 7:45am-8:35am on Thursday mornings for an Art Club! Art Club is a place where you can explore your creativity and experiment with materials. The main rules are to have fun, be creative and clean up whatever you take out. The Somerville Morning Show Club, 4th Grade Only
Help Somerville start Monday off right with morning announcements. In this club, fourth graders will get the opportunity to help create a morning announcement video that will be pre-recorded and sent out schoolwide every Monday. Morning announcements usually include information such as student birthdays, upcoming school events or holidays, interesting facts and jokes of the day!
If you are interested in creating fun and entertaining videos for our school community, please sign up by writing a short paragraph that explains WHY you would like to participate in the morning announcements. Your paragraph can also share any ideas you have for new topics to be included in the announcements.

Our FIRST whole club meeting will be on Tuesday, September 12 in the library from 3:00 to 3:30. Our WEEKLY meetings will also occur on Tuesdays at 3:00-3:30. Once you have signed up, a rotating schedule will be sent out to let you know which recording days you will be responsible for. After the first whole club meeting, you will only need to attend meetings on the dates you are assigned.

TREP$, short for enTREPreneur$, is a project-based learning program that teaches kids how to start their own businesses. The TREPS club will meet once per week for approximately 8 weeks to learn lessons on entrepreneurship and how to apply them as they build their businesses. For the grand finale, the whole school community comes out to enjoy the TREP$ Marketplace, held right at school, where the young entrepreneurs launch their businesses together.
This club is open to 5th grade students only! The Somerville TREPS advisors have already met with each 5th grade class to introduce the TREPS program. There is a $20 fee required to participate that provides a t-shirt, apron, and workbook for all entrepreneurs.
If you're interested in participating, please fill out this form and bring in $20 cash or a check made out to Somerville School by September 13th. Once your child has signed up using this form, more information will be sent home to families.

SCT Morning Club, 4th and 5th Grade Only
Thinking about auditioning for this years musical? SCT Morning Club is a great way to find out! This club is an introduction to musical theatre, focusing on the fundamentals of performing. It is open to 4th and 5th grade students who have never been part of a theatrical production. Signups will be after the Mandatory SCT Meeting on Tuesday evening, September 19th at 7pm.

Student Council
Calling all 4th and 5th Graders! Come and join the Somerville Student Council! Student council members will be responsible for planning events and activities for our 2023-2024 school year. Our goal is to make our Somerville and Ridgewood community a better place by organizing and implementing acts of kindness. Various activities include the Thanksgiving Food Drive, Valentines Day cafeteria decorating and the Souper Bowl.
Our format will be to meet every other Tuesday during lunchtime. We will send home schedules after our first meeting, which will be Tuesday October 3. Please remind your child to bring their lunch to Room 118 (Ms. Bielicky’s room) when lunch begins at 12:20. Please sign up here.

Newspaper Club, Grade 5
The Newspaper Club is for Somerville fifth graders. Students will write and publish “The Pawprint Press” which will be sent out to the community as a digital publication. Students will be responsible for writing, editing, and helping to publish a variety of articles about Somerville School and student activities/interests. Student reporters will brainstorm topics, interview students and staff members, research, take photographs, and write informational pieces. Students also have the opportunity to express their creativity through the creation of comic strips, artwork, and puzzles. The Newspaper Club will create “buzz” about each issue by presenting at Team Somerville assemblies. Please sign-up only if you are able to commit to weekly meetings, deadlines, and completing some work on your own time.

Glee Club, Grades 4 and 5
Do you LOVE to sing? Come join Glee Club! Learn to sing popular and classic pop songs including Broadway and musical theater! We will learn performing, acting, and singing techniques. We will focus on singing in harmony, reading rhythms, and understanding how to be a solo singer as well as an ensemble singer. There will also be some movement incorporated in our performances. The Glee Club will perform at the School Concerts! Rehearsals are every Wednesday from 8:00am-8:35am starting September 27th. Some rehearsals are mandatory. Students are permitted to miss four non-mandatory rehearsals. Three late arrivals will count as a missed rehearsal. A schedule will be handed out at the first meeting. Join Somerville’s Handchime Club! Learn how to play the Handchimes, develop your musicianship skills, gain performance experience, and be a part of a small ensemble. Handchime choir rehearses every Tuesday from 8:00am- 8:35am starting on October 10th. The Handchime Choir performs at the School Concerts. Handchime Club has limited space. Welcome to the Recess Games Club! Students will have the opportunity to be active after school hours and engage in great new activities. This is a great way for everyone to enjoy physical activity, meet new friends and explore new passions for movement. There will be 8-week sessions on Wednesdays for Grades K&1 & 2&3. Somerville Boys Road Runners, Grades 4-5 Please join us for this program for Somerville 4th and 5th grade boys! Led by Somerville Teachers/Coaches, Somerville Road Runners encourages boys of all abilities to build confidence, recognize their individual strengths and celebrate connections with others. We will use physical activity and dynamic discussions to build social, emotional and physical skills in every boy, while encouraging healthy habits for life. This program runs 7 weeks and will meet after school. We will meet in Mr. Dembin’s classroom (119) for snack and meeting and then do our warm ups, running and games outside at the back playground/track. The dates are: TBD. We will also be running the Ridgewood Run 5K on Memorial Day. Since there are not many meetings please only register if you can commit to attending all of them.
